General Overview

People & Place puts young people at the heart of projects taking place across England.

Each project is unique and will result in the production of new displays, resources, events and volunteering opportunities for young people as well as embedding new ways of working at each partner institution.

People & Place aims to link the experiences and identities of young people and their surroundings with a personal investigation of the past and its impact on the present.

The programme is partnered with six regional museums:

Managed by the British Museum, the partnership is working to create opportunities for long-term engagement with young people, embed organisational change in working with young people, and to facilitate the sharing of knowledge and expertise.  As much as possible the young people have been involved in the development of each programme and decided what outputs they would like to create.  This has resulted in a variety of different outcomes across the partnership, including exhibitions and events.

The People & Place programme is also supported by the National Youth Agency and Manchester Museum; consultative partners who have helped partner organisations to work in new and sustainable ways with groups of young people and to build both confidence and skills in targeting this audience.

The People & Place programme is funded by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and the Department for Education, for better engagement with young people in museums.
