Day 1.

We gathered at the Gilberd school to begin our adventure. Representatives of the Colchester Gazette photographed us posing, before we boarded the coach and set off. A few hours later, we arrived at Heathrow airport, and went through check in and customs. After a long and mind-numbingly boring wait, we finally boarded the plane and took off.

Day 2.

The plane arrived at the world’s largest airport terminal in Beijing, China. We soon met our guide, Toby, and took a brief coach ride to Tiananmen square. We saw Chairman Mao’s mauselium and the monument, before entering the forbidden city. There we saw the different areas where the emperors lived, ate, slept and died. We spent a while at the forbidden city before taking the coach to the summer palace. There were a number of interesting statues at the summer palace, but we left fairly quickly as it was so cold the lake had frozen over.

Days 3 and 4 to follow…

Sam and Dan

This was the date of our third meeting, and one of the best yet! First...

This was the date of our third meeting, and one of the best yet! First of all we were introduced to a man from a local newspaper, who, of course, wanted to take photos for the newspaper, which didn’t go down to well with some of us girls, but me and Rosa, being good sports decide what the heck, and we posed for pictures, which in the turned out to be pretty fun.
Next we learnt some phrases to say for when we go to China. Sometimes you think how am i ever going to learn a hole new language, but after a while it gets easier and easier.(It also helps that we aren’t learning it all, just little bits!)
After that we were told how to say our names in Chinese, and we were shown how to write them in Chinese characters. We were even given little badges to put them on!
Next was the Chinese music, it was so good! We were told would her three types of music, one Chinese opera, one Chinese pop and one Chinese classical, and that we had to guess which song was which. We got them all right, but when she put on the pop song, we all seemed to really enjoy, some of us even said that we were going to get the song on our ipods!
We also got to paint! I loved it. We had to try and paint bamboo, mine started off well, but then i ruined it by trying to leaves on them, it went all wrong! On the other hand, Nitika, another girl in the project, her painting was amazing!
Lastly, before we went, we got to try a little Chinese snack… Watermelon seeds. Thet tasted really good. What you had to do was crack the shell with your teeth, and eat the inside, which tasted alot like nuts!

And thats just about it, till next time,

Rosey x
