Penpals
Signals Media Arts Centre in partnership with Colchester and Ipswich Museums and Essex Social Services will be providing an exciting project for young people aged 11 to 16.
Tutors worked with the group to develop the idea, create a script, storyboard, direct, animate and post produce the film during the summer. Using a combination of animation techniques, including stop motion, the story unfolds as the British child imagines their Chinese friend’s life. The  animated film is about a child who finds comfort and joy in exchanging letters and small gifts with their Chinese pen-pal.
The project took place over 13 sessions in the Summer of 2010 and explored themes of friendship and travel.
This project has been funded through the national First Light Movies scheme and Colchester and Ipswich Museums.
