Year of the Tiger

Year of the Tiger

A group 20 young people from fostering families aged between 11 and 13 worked with Colchester and Ipswich Museums to mark the start of the Chinese Year of the Tiger 2010. The participants chose to celebrate Chinese New Year through an art project and took part in several workshops, including Shadow Puppets, Terracotta Tigers and Dragon-Making.

These workshops raised the young people’s interest in and knowledge of Chinese culture and history. An exhibition of their work opened with a fun-day which included kite and fan making, origami and handling objects from the British Museum.

An exhibition of their work was shown in Hollytrees Museum in Colchester.

This project will form part of Colchester and Ipswich Museums’ Eastern Exchanges project as part of the Cultural Olympiad’s Stories of the World programme.
