Elliott’s Knife Blade

Elliott’s Knife Blade

Elliott Jones chose this iron knife blade, pictured above, as his object.  From the museums MODES record he was able to discover that it was found in Brough, which is about 5 miles north of Newark.  The knife blade has been treated and lacquered for preservation. The blade is quite worn and has a hole in the cutting edge.  It would probably have had a wooden handle and been used in the kitchen for food preparation, maybe chopping, rather than for eating with.  Elliot chose this object because it looked so old.  He is intrigued by the hole in the cutting edge and wonders whether this has rusted away over the centuries or if it was why the knife was thrown away.
