Chris’s BM visit report and art work

On 23rd February 2010 8 students & 3 staff from Orchard School plus 3 museum service staff visited the British Museum.  The following is Chris’s memories of the visit:

Me and Brandon walked to school.  Just after 9.30 we walked to Northgate Station to catch the train at 10.00 to London.  We looked out the window as we got to the Emirates.  When we got off the train we walked past Platform 9 ¾.  We walked to the British Museum and met Maria, who looked after us.  We left our bags in a room and Maria took us on a tour.  We saw the Egyptian mummies, but the museum was crowded.  We saw the library then went back to the room for lunch.  After lunch we split up and I went to the Roman galleries.  I saw some coins with Hadrian on and also saw a model of his head.  He had a beard, which was unusual.  A lady showed us some Roman objects, a brooch, bead, some coins and a wax tablet.  After that we went to the store rooms and looked at some other things mad of pot, leather, wood, ivory, bone and stone.  We went back for a cup of tea, had a last look round, then walked back to Kings Cross Station.

As well as the mosaic and Roman pot making workshops in which the students participated, most of the students have produced a drawing of their chosen object.  This is Chris’s drawing of the Hadrianic coin:
