Living Well Trust Project
For this project we are linking with a group of hard to reach young people who attend sessions at the Living Well Trust group in Raffles, Carlisle.
The aim is to share with the young people how we learn from objects particularly focusing on our Roman heritage. We started by looking at our own objects and thinking about what they say about us. Then we moved on to using some objects to tell a story about someone living during World War Two. From there we looked at all sorts of objects and tried to put them onto a timeline.
The young people are now exploring and taking photos of their own environment and doing some local research to compare with a Roman environment. They will visit Tullie House again to think about Roman Carlisle. There are plans in place for them to visit Arbeia Roman Fort in South Shields where they have some fascinating reconstructed Roman buildings, and do some Roman cooking and pottery making.
We are hoping that the young people will put together a display and presentation on the project and that we will be able to visit the British Museum towards the end of May 2010.
