Yak Yak Group

Tullie House set up a youth group in October 2009 nicknamed Yak Yak for 14 to 18 year olds. With seven current members, the group has met three times and in February five of them travelled down to London.

Three members attended the Young Persons Conference at the British Museum while the other two members used the opportunity to visit other museums and galleries in the capital.

They (with three members of museum staff) stayed overnight and went to the theatre and really began to get to know each other and bond as a group. The following day was spent exploring the galleries at the British Museum and looking at some Cumbrian coins with a curator.

With Tullie staff, the Roman Galleries were investigated and the group used the opportunity to think about the new Roman Gallery opening in 2011 at Tullie House. This trip has created enthusiasm for museums and the hope is that this small group will become more involved with Tullie House and help guide the museum to develop their offer for young people.
