2009 – 2010

The project in 2009 began with all the pupils in Year 7 visiting Hadrian’s Wall at Housesteads, and taking on Roman identities. These identities had been developed during class sessions and derived from research into authentic Roman names and information on military units that have survived on inscriptions from the frontier.

Back in college, the project team facilitated creative activity workshops in which each student had the opportunity to explore their own identity and their adopted Roman identity, to consider ideas of heritage and passing things on to future generations and to create their own electronic ‘Heritage Identity Card’. These themes were developed further during a site visit of 25 of the students to Segedunum Museum, where they were prompted to look closely at the objects on display and to consider the issues of finding, recording and presenting objects.

The work produced with Burnside Business and Enterprise College provides some of the content for their own wesbite ‘Wall to Wall’, and most of the ’Wall to Wall’ exhibition, which was on display from 26 March – 23 May 2010 in the Temporary Exhibition Gallery at Segedunum.
