In Touch

In Touch is a volunteer programme run in collaboration between Manchester Museum and Imperial War Museum North. Volunteers follow a ten-week tailor-made Cultural Heritage Course and learn about the museum, handle objects, make friends and pick up skills for job hunting.

The project aims to promote skills and confidence in participants and aims specifically to integrate culturally and socially excluded individuals into the Museums Service to Visitors.  The In Touch project looks to recruit individuals from diverse backgrounds. Targeted groups include long-term unemployed, people with low skills levels and outdated skills or those who have been out of the education system for a number of years and may be disengaged with learning, as well as young people (post 16) who are at risk of exclusion and/or offending, asylum seekers and refugees.
