Stories of the World
‘Through Stories of the World people of all backgrounds, from every part of the UK, will become ‘curators’ of the collections and objects held in museums, libraries and archives.’
Stories of the World is a major project at the heart of the Cultural Olympiad and is led by MLA in partnership with the London Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Between now and 2012, 14 regional partners across 50 museums, libraries and archives will work together to explore the stories behind collections that have come from all over the world. Audiences will be told stories, not by curators but from the viewpoint of people from diverse cultures who are now living in the UK. The project aims to focus particularly on the curatorial input from young people.
The project will result in a series of exhibitions at a variety of venues which will encourage new audiences and add contemporary relevance to collections and objects from across the UK.
